Creating a personal gallery: How to showcase framed images in your home

As a family portrait photographer, I am so grateful to be able to capture beautiful memories for my clients. After they have chosen their favourite photographs from their gallery, they can then choose how they would like them displayed in their home. With a wide range of framing and wall art options its important to make sure you get the best out of your images with the right frames to suit your home. Here are some tips on how to make the most out of your home galleries.

The first step in making the most out of your framed images is choosing the right location to display them. Consider where the images will be viewed most, and how it will fit in with the rest of the decor in the room. Usually, family portraits look great in living rooms, hallways or staircases, somewhere that all of your guests and family can enjoy. Be sure to think about what else you have in this space, think about the colour and texture of your desired frames and what will work with your decor.

Grouping framed images together is a great way to make a statement and create a cohesive display. You can group them by theme, colour, or shape. Perhaps you have singular portraits that you'd like together in one room and then landscape family portraits that you'd like elsewhere. Maybe a full wall gallery would work in your home, you can do this in a sleek minimalist style with uniform matching frames and all black and white photos, or in a maximalist style with colour images and frames of all colours, shapes and sizes, decide what works for you. There's also the option of more alternative ways of hanging your images, I offer canvasses, printed wooded blocks, acrylic wall art, printed aluminium pieces etc, all of these options offer something different and bring alternative styles into your home.

The size of the image and the frame is also important to consider. It's important to choose a size that fits well with the space it will be displayed in. Make sure to also leave enough space around the image for it to breathe and not look crowded. If you want one large framed photograph as the centrepiece of the room, be sure to carefully measure the space and chose a frame compliment both the image and the setting. you can also chose to have boarders within your frame, this changes the style and look of the whole piece. A full bleed framed photograph looks modern and simple, where-as a frame with a boarder can look more traditional, think about your style and what you prefer.

It is also important to consider the lighting in your home. Lighting can make or break your display, try and find somewhere with natural lighting but avoid direct sunlight as this can cause fading to the photograph and the frame. If you don't have much natural light in your home think about the warmness of your lighting, do you lights have warm, yellow tones or are they bright white, these things can all make a difference to how the finished product looks on your walls.

In conclusion, how you choose to display your images is just as important as taking them. By following these tips, you can create a beautiful and meaningful display that they will be enjoyed for years to come.
